Guidance on EPFO Rules, Procedures & Compliance Requirements
1. Minimum Number of Employees Required for EPF Registration
- EPF registration is generally mandatory for covered establishments employing 20 or more people.
- Employers with fewer than 20 employees may also opt for voluntary EPF coverage with 1 employees, subject to applicable conditions.
- Once an establishment comes under EPF coverage, it generally continues to remain covered even if its employee count falls below 20.
2. EPF Contribution Rate
Under the standard EPF contribution structure:

The actual contribution depends on the applicable law, wage components, and employee eligibility.
3. EPF New Wage Ceiling Limit w.e.f. 16-Sep-2026
On 16 September 2026, the Union Cabinet approved an increase in the EPF wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month. (Note: The final notification has not been issued yet by EPFO Department or Ministry.)
